How long will it take for me to feel better?
During your initial visit we will do our best to answer this question, however there are many factors that will contribute to your healing. We will try to get you to an optimal stage of health as quickly as your body will allow us to, once we have achieved this it will be up to you to maintain the results with exercise, rest and a balanced diet. However, common for our patients to come in for “maintenance treatments” as most people find that they feel their best when getting regular acupuncture treatments.
How does acupuncture work?
It is important to understand that Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years and does not conform to Western Medical ideas, language or theories. The basic principle of acupuncture is to read the signs and symptoms the body is producing (i.e. cough, headache, etc.), locate the root cause their root cause and gently bring the body back into balance.
Do acupuncture needles hurt?
Generally there is little to no feeling when acupuncture needles are inserted through the skin because the needles are approximately the width of a hair. You will sometimes feel a dull ache or slight tingling sensation once the needle reaches the Qi (pronounced “chee”).
What should I expect on the first visit?
We usually send you all of your “New Patient” paperwork in the mail once you schedule your first visit, however if you haven’t had a chance to fill it out yet, please arrive at least 15 minutes early. We will then discuss the reasons of your visit in depth. We will ask many questions, some will seem relevant and some will not, but answering in detail and in depth will allow us to give you a more accurate diagnosis. We will look at your tongue and check your pulses. After creating a specific treatment plan for you, we will continue with the treatment which could include one or more of the following: needles, moxibustion, herbal remedies, massage or cupping. At the end of your session, we will explain your diagnosis, discuss your treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.
