Acupuncture for Labor Induction
Posted by admin at 05:30 | Filed In Acupuncture News, Inspired Wellness Center, News you can Use | Add a Comment
Imagine you’ve had a wonderful pregnancy and you’ve done all the right things to keep that baby in your belly so it can grow to be healthy and happy. You’ve thought good thoughts, eaten nutritious food, exercised often… all so you bring your baby to term. Maybe you’ve even had a few sleepless nights worrying about labor and what it will entail? Well, in my experience, something shifts about week 38 and you suddenly can’t wait to get that kid out of your tummy, and often it can’t come soon enough! Personally, I like this think this is Mother Nature’s gift to you, so you don’t care what you have to go thru during labor to get the prize on the other side.
So finally a friend, or even a midwife or OB doctor, says everything looks good and suggests you call an Acupuncturist for labor induction. This is one of my favorite days, when I get the call from one of my fertility patients saying, “you got this baby in there, now you get it out!” Whether you’ve used an Acupuncturist to get pregnant or during pregnancy, or this is your first time… here are a few things to know about using Acupuncture for labor induction:
- It is my opinion that a good Acupuncturist won’t even consider starting the induction process until your doctor clears you. If your baby is breech, which is also something that Acupuncture can help with, but that needs to be addressed before induction can be considered.
- It should be a comfortable, relaxing process! In my office in Arvada, we sit you in a comfortable chair, put some nice music on, turn the lights down low and then begin the Acupuncture. The most common area’s for induction are on the shoulders, hands and ankles. Be sure to dress so we can access these area’s.
- Don’t worry, once you start the induction treatment… you won’t spontaneously go into labor right in our office. It usually takes time! I ask patients to wait 24-36 hours before their next treatment so we can see how things are progressing.
- Chances are good it will take more than one treatment. In my experience 2-3 treatments are necessary to really get the ball rolling.
- In general, using Acupuncture for labor induction, not only starts the whole process but USUALLY makes the labor itself shorter and easier as well. For instance, one patient I recently worked with, her labor was 4 hours and 19 minutes… with only 8 minutes of pushing. WOW!
So there you go! Using Acupuncture for labor induction is an easy way to help “get the party started” and hopefully help to make it as easy as labor can be! And no matter what… the prize on the other end will ALWAYS be worth it!

Great Gift Ideas for Cancer Patients
Posted by admin at 05:30 | Filed In News you can Use | Add a Comment
In this blog post we offer simple and elegant solutions to what many people feel is a somewhat awkward situation. When a friend, a loved one, a relative or a co-worker tells you they have cancer you may initially be at a loss for words and yet you want to offer empathy and comfort. In this post we will suggest some solutions that can enable you to create your own plan to help the cancer patient along his or her journey.
Choosing a helpful cancer gift can be a great way to show your support. Great gifts can be simple acts of kindness, products to ease side effects, inspirational items, or items to create a sense of well being and reassurance.
Helping with daily chores and activities can be a great way to relieve the patient of some activities which might be repetitive, tiring and stressful. You can cook a dinner and bring it over for the family to enjoy. Do the laundry! Don’t like doing laundry? Take the laundry to a wash and fold Laundromat. Vacuum the house. Do the grocery shopping. Helping with little chores goes a long way. Offer to drive a carpool or offer to baby-sit for a few hours. Make a cheery photo album or scrapbook of the times you’ve shared, and add some inspirational quotes.

Many patients have trouble getting to doctor appointments, radiation oncology appointments, and chemotherapy sessions. They might be too weak, tired or nauseous to get behind a wheel. You can offer to drive. If you live in a city, you can accompany them on public transportation or in a cab. Think about staying with someone – being present - while they are receiving chemotherapy – if this is allowed by the facility. Sitting and receiving an infusion can be cold and lonely. Having a caring person nearby helps. Sometimes a second set of ears at a doctor appointment is helpful – to comprehend what is being said and also to think of questions which the patient might be too overwhelmed or nervous to consider. You can take notes for the patient during doctor appointments.
Many people prefer to give or send a physical gift, especially if they don’t live near the patient. To select just the right gift, think about the type of side effects that the patient is experiencing and what products might be available to help reduce and relieve these symptoms. If you happen to know the name of the chemotherapy drug the patient is receiving you can look up the likely side effects. If not, some general suggestions are:
- Products to help heal and soothe radiation burns
- Cancer skin care products for sensitive and compromised skin
- Cancer hair care products to reduce hair loss and stimulate hair regrowth
- Oral care items for dry mouth and mouth sores
- Nutritional products to help boost the immune system.
- Easy to use Personal Health Record Organizer software — by Minerva Health Technologies.
- Natural, Botanical and Homeopathic products to relieve cancer side effects
- Products for the Relief of Nausea associated with chemotherapy
- All natural Skin Care products made without perfumes or chemicals
- Post radiation sun protection products
- Nail protection and rejuvenation products
- Bound organizers to store and consolidate medical information
- Cancer recovery exercise DVD
Other product ideas can range from informative and inspirational books to calming and stress reducing CD’s or DVD’s. Be careful with scented items such as candles or incense because a cancer patient’s sense of smell is often affected by chemotherapy drugs and radiation, so sometimes patients become very sensitive to smell, even those which might have previously been pleasant.

As you can see, there are many ways to be caring, supportive and giving to cancer patients. Although at first you might feel uncomfortable after learning about someone’s cancer diagnosis, don’t back away. If you review some of the ideas discussed here, you might be able provide just the right help along their journey through treatment.

Losing weight is a Bi$#%!! 4.5 Pounds Lighter and I made it through week 1 with Eskew Fitness successfully. . . . kind of!
Posted by admin at 05:30 | Filed In Inspired Wellness Center, Jana's Journey to Wellness | Add a Comment
And the saga continues…
As promised I have partnered up with Stoney Eskew, of Eskew Fitness, and we’ve come up with a plan that if (WHEN!!!) followed will help me reach my fitness goals. This month or so is going to seem a little extreme as we have a big milestone/goal coming up. Me. In a two piece swimsuit. On the beaches of Hawaii!!!
Ok, my first week of the plan is known as “the Reset” phase. For 5 days I took my Usana supplements, drank 3 shakes per day, ate 2 bars and was allowed one piece of fruit and unlimited veggies. It is also encouraged that you do easy exercising for 30 minutes a day and drink lots of water. The point of Reset is to obviously hit the reset button on the body and start to un-do years of what my diet and lifestyle has done, screwing with my blood sugar and liver. Here’s the good, bad and ugly of my 5 days of Reset.
Day 1: successfully kept to the plan of my lemon water in the morning, my 3 shakes, 2 bars and got some exercise in too. When I got home from work that night, my husband had just started re-heating leftovers for his dinner so the house smelled of delicious pizza…my favorite! He was lucky I was only on day 1 and still had a bit of a sense of humor or this may have ended in his demise.
Day 2: started the day feeling good about this wonderful thing I was doing for my body and then the bottom fell out. My day turned into one of those days that ever thing goes wrong and the only solution for it becomes some comfort food and a drink(maybe 3!). But nope…my comfort was shakes and bars. I couldn’t believe I made it thru that day without cheating. Did I mention it was my first night of Kickball where jello shots and beers are mandatory?
Day 3: starting to think this program is a terrible idea. I stick to it all day but I find I can’t keep a thought in my head and I dont think even a million dollars would motivate me into finding the energy to get up and do anything…even the necessities like going to the bathroom seem to require energy than I am willing to part with.
Day 4: there is hope! I have been nearly perfect for 3 days and I am finally feeling a bit more clear headed and energetic. I am especially proud of myself when I make it thru 2hrs of volleyball without even a second look at the beers and other delicious drinks that are surrounding me. I am the picture of dedication!
Day 5: the final day. I have lost 4.5 pounds and that is very motivating. I feel good. I feel like the shakes and bars are habit and have actually made my life easier. I work a busy day, run some errands and then head to a Mammoth game (Colorado indoor lacrosse) where I make my first giant screw up of phase 1. During the game I let that voice in my head convince me that I have done SO well that I DESERVE to splurge. And so I do. I share nachos with my husband and have a beer. They both taste…ok. Not the heavenly experience I was prepared for, which was a bit disappointing.

And so ends phase 1. . . .The following day I allow myself some slack as I did do pretty well in my first week. I find that it will be easier to make mostly healthy decisions going forward as my digestive system seems to have MUCH stronger opinions about what I put in my body after the Reset. I now begin phase 2 which will be the next 28 days until I leave. I am almost 4 pounds lighter even after my “splurges” and feeling hopeful about reaching my goal of going to Hawaii 14 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning if this. If I reach that goal, I will officially be the same weight I was in high school and that sounds VERY nice!

Energize Your Health, Energize Your Relationships
Posted by admin at 05:30 | Filed In News you can Use | Add a Comment
Author: Kimberly Rex, MS, Certified Resonance Repatterning Practitioner
You are an electromagnetic being. Your life energy is established through the relationship between the electrical charges that surround muscles, bones, organs and tissues. You heart is regulated by an electrical nerve bundle. Your brain emits electrical brain waves. The cells and atoms of your body rely on the capacity to adapt and thrive based on electrical charge. In fact, the quality of health you are experiencing today is directly related to the quality of communication between the energy circuits of your body-mind system.
Your body-mind field is always interacting with the field around it. That means that your wellness and sense of well-being are related. Relationships, whether they business-related, family, friendship or intimate work in the same way. They are energy circuits. Feed them through coherent communication, limits and motivation to return to union, and they thrive!
If there is a disruption or blockage in your health or relationship through mis-communication, unresolved conflict, or lack of appreciation, your experience of love or well being changes. Either way, a disruption or blockage of energy equals pain.
Love is the motivating force that energizes life and influences the power of relationship. The light, sound and expression of life energy thrive with care for your inner needs and feelings. In every relationship there is an opportunity to expand awareness through a reflection of light and love, and in the courage to open your heart. Resolving inner conflict within your physical, emotional, mental and spirit body results in the potential for greater expression and capacity for love.
When there are unresolved issues from past experiences, that energy gets fed into the energy circuit of your relationships whether it is conscious or unconscious. This shows up in toxicity or dissonance as frustration, conflict, pain, suffering or lack of fulfillment. In the same way, health issues are a product of what is circulated through your body-mind system through nutrition, habits, and self-care over time.

The quality of life you experience in any moment is dependent on many factors. When you resonate with gratitude, appreciation, forgiveness and love, you have a greater capacity for connection to others and for that connection to energize you. In a relationship, expression of these same messages to another help your relationship to grow and flourish. When difficulties arise, as they do in life, drawing on the energy of joyful and loving experiences shared helps you to weather challenging situations.
Your health also depends on your ability to set limits. The purpose of your immune system is to discern what is self and what is other. Too much resistance however can show up as the inability for cellular systems to communicate with one another in your body. When there is an inability to discern self from other, the response can play out in a number of issues that show up on the emotional, mental, and physical levels. In relationships, this can show up as blame, feeling like a victim, or being out of control with your responses. The truth is that in any moment you can become more empowered through taking responsibility for what you are contributing to the energy exchange happening within, and accepting where there is a need to make a change in behavior, thinking or actions. Taking responsibility includes setting limits in situations that are hurting you personally. If you are stuck in a repeating pattern, it might be wise to seek support in looking at unconscious roots that still carry a highly-charged emotion or memory imprint.
How you handle stress is directly related to how your body responds. Resonating with the ability to move through a challenging situation in a self-empowered way actually empowers your immune system. This can only be done when you are in touch with your own needs and feelings, and are able to express these needs and feelings in a way that nurtures your energy circuit. This means communication is clear, tells the truth, and expresses care for the energy circuit of your relationship.
Finding ways to empower your own energy circuit include taking care of your body with good nutrition, grounding your energy with connection to nature, meditation, allowing yourself to identify and process feelings, listening to calming music, exercising regularly, getting in touch with your breath and making space for yourself with downtime and hobbies you enjoy are just a few ways to stay connected to your own energy circuit. This also empowers you to create harmonizing energy for all your relationships.

Don’t Ignore Infertilty, Take Charge to Get Pregnant Today!
Posted by admin at 05:30 | Filed In News you can Use | Add a Comment
![]()
Guest Blog by: Renee Waggener
April awareness week was all about new beginnings, birth and rebirth. For those that are struggling with infertility, and birthing, pregnancy is all we think about. It is the end goal. Please let me birth a baby. Let me Xperience growth inside of myself. Let me feel the kicks and give me the back pain . . . anything is better than this hell of NOT having. This is the story we are stuck in, the story of NOT having. Here’s the secret and the harsh reality . . .
We will continue to NOT have if that is all we can think about.
It doesn’t have to stay that way!
In April we raised awareness for infertility during National Infertility Awareness Week NIAW April 22-28th. Don’t Ignore Infertility was the theme.
Awhhh Spring time!
With that in mind, what are you ignoring? What pattern have you formed around infertility that you are ignoring? What hurt, or fear have you buried and ignored, yet it keeps persisting? The question you are asking is, “What can get me out of this “Not having” mode and back into having something more fertilicious? Like a LIFE!”
ASK for HELP to find the answers!

Get moving! Find a support group! Consult with a Reproduction Endocrinologist! See your Acupuncturist! Hire a Fertility Coach! But do something. Our babies are waiting and they need to know that you are willing to show up differently so that stress is no longer an albatross around your neck. Having the courage to say that you need help in this process of infertility is for some a very difficult step. We are generally women that are motivated, badass bitches that “Git’ er done”. We are the doers, the fixers, and active women that are very skilled at multi-tasking at home/work and in our social lives. We are the ones our friends call on to ask for help. We are used to doing everything ourselves. We are the one who can fix the problems and yet here we are, not able to solve our own infertility. Some think, “What is wrong with me? AM I broken?” If I ask for help, then that is a confirmation that something is wrong with me, I’m inadequate, helpless, or for sure broken. Infertility is a disease.
Having courage is really about being scared and doing it anyways… powering through to the other side. It’s facing your fears head on instead of ignoring them. The longer you let your fears have control of your life, the longer the fear will control you. Find that courage, deep in your soul that you have been ignoring and bring it forward. Use that courage to ask for help. Getting help is necessary while you are drowning in the infertile despair. When you take that first step and ask for help from a professional, instantly the pressure will release. You are not alone, you can get your life back, and you are on your way to being that fertilicious mother you have been waiting to become.
So as you face this spring, face it with a renewed energy that is all about courage. Be that bold mother-to-be that doesn’t ignore her infertility, but is able to gain strength from asking for help. Then receive it with love and appreciation.
